First Time Offender (BAC between .08-.10%)
In your first offense in Rhode Island, you’re looking at fines of $100-$300, a suspended license for up to 6 months, plus up to one year in jail, 10-60 hours of community service, a Highway Safety Assessment ($500 fee) conducted by the Community College of Rhode Island, and possible enrollment in a driving school and/or an alcohol treatment program.
First Time Offender (BAC between .10-.15%)
If your Blood Alcohol Content is higher, your fines can go up to $400, plus a year in jail and suspended license, plus up to 60 hours of community service.
Second Time Offender within Five Years (BAC between .08-.15%)
If you don’t learn your lesson the first time you’re convicted, and are convicted again of a DUI within five years of your first one, you’re looking at a $400 fine, license suspension for two years, a year in jail, alcohol or drug treatment program, and possible ignition interlock on your car.
Third Time Offender within Five Years (BAC between .08-.15%)
The third strike in Rhode island can come with even more penalties including higher fines, up to three years in jail and two to three years without your license, plus alcohol or drug treatment program and ignition interlock for two years after you’re out of jail.
