Wyoming Online Alcohol & Drug Awareness Course Information
Believe it or not, 1 in 3 people will be involved in a drunk driving accident in their lifetime. The average intoxicated driver has driven 80 times before their first arrest. Every minute, one person is injured from an alcohol-related crash. These statistics are real. Alcohol and drug abuse is a serious addiction and it can start at a much younger age than you realize.
Facts About Under the Influence in Wyoming (summarized from statute 31-5-233)
Driving under the influence doesn’t just pertain to alcohol. Wyoming defines several controlled substances as illegal including “Any glue, aerosol or other toxic vapor which when intentionally inhaled or sniffed results in impairment of an individual's ability to drive safely; any drug or psychoactive substance, or any combination of these substances, capable of impairing a person's physical or mental faculties.”
A convicted person will be ordered to received a substance abuse assessment and the cost of this must be paid by the offender. In minor cases, the offender is looking at 6 months in jail and/or fines exceeding $750.00. The more offenses, the higher the cost - both financially and in jail time. On a fourth offense, drivers caught operating a vehicle under the influence can face jail time of up to 7 years and/or fines up to $10,000.
These facts don’t include the cost to the offender’s family and friends, or the cost of injuring another person or property while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
